Hat-trick for Hull girls at Inspiresport Champion Schools festivals

Hat-trick for Hull girls at Inspiresport Champion Schools festivals

Hull’s Malet Lambert School will have three girls sides involved in Champion Schools Finals Day in July, after their Year 8, 9 and 10 teams triumphed at this week’s national festivals, winning all of their semi-final games without conceding a single point.

Malet’s Year 8 team defeated Outwood Academy (Haydock) 26-0, Year 9 ran out 50-0 winners against Castleford Academy and the Year 10 girls beat St Peter's Catholic High (Wigan) 26-0.

Awaiting the three Malet teams at Wakefield Trinity’s DIY Kitchens Stadium on Friday 5 July will be Archbishop Sentamu Academy (Year 8), St Peters RC High (Year 9) and Castleford Academy (Year 10). Archbishop Sentamu defeated St John Fisher (Wigan) 20-10, while St Peters won 18-10 against West Lakes Academy (Egremont) Cumbria) and Castleford Academy beat Rainford High School (St Helens) 16-12 in dramatic fashion with a last minute try.

Rainford High will, however, be represented in the Year 7 final, having defeated Ysgol Glantaf (Cardiff) 14-10 after golden point extra time. Their opponents will be St Bede's & St Joesph's (Bradford) who beat Archbishop Sentamu Academy 34-10.

Finals day action gets underway in Wakefield at 10.45am on Friday 5 July and will also include the boy’s finals at Years 8, 9 and 10.

Castleford Academy enjoyed a boys/girls double at last month’s Year 11 finals day, while the boy’s Year 7 final, for the Steven Mullaney Trophy, will be played at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 8 June before the Women’s Challenge Cup Final. St Peter’s RC High School (Wigan) will play Ysgol Glantaf (Cardiff).
