Leyland Warriors hosts second ever Women’s Masters Rugby League Festival

Leyland Warriors hosts second ever Women’s Masters Rugby League Festival

The second ever Women’s Masters Rugby League Festival took place over the weekend with Leyland Warriors hosting another successful event.

Over 50 players took part with a total of five different teams competing on the day, highlighting the level of growth in the game.

The festival marks another significant milestone for the social variant with increasing the number of Women’s Masters teams considered a key area of growth this year.

Masters Women’s Officer, Mina Patel, explained:

“The ability to run a Women’s only Masters Rugby League event demonstrates the growth in the game over the last two years. It also highlights the inclusivity of Rugby League proving age is not a limiting factor.

“The day had a real family atmosphere about it and there was even an opportunity to have your photo with all the major Rugby League trophies, courtesy of Wigan Warriors. The sunshine also played its part in making the event a massive success.

“The spirit of Masters was on show throughout the day with some of the bigger squads supporting others by mixing up to ensure games remained at 13 a side. The event also raised over £1200 for the chosen charities - MNDA and BabyBeat.

“Next stop for our Women’s events is the Yorkshire Masters Festival Saturday 6 July hosted by Doncaster Toll Bar!”

Masters Rugby League is strictly a social version of the sport for players aged 35+ for Men’s Masters and 30+ for Women’s Masters. The aim is for enjoyment, fitness benefits and social aspects whilst players engage in a version of Rugby League modified for ‘the older player.’ Anyone interested should contact their local clubs which can be found on the Masters RL page.
