Wheelchair Rugby League Pathway - Women and Juniors

Wheelchair Rugby League Pathway - Women and Juniors

Wheelchair Rugby League continues to develop and expand its reach into out community and we are delighted to announce the next phases for Women and Junior Wheelchair.

Following very successful events in Sheffield and York earlier this summer, we will be hosting two further sessions on Saturday 07 September 2024 at EIS Sheffield.  The sessions will continue on the skills and gameplay needed for the game and will finish with selection for Origin Teams.

England are playing France in a Wheelchair RL Test Match on Saturday 26 October 2024 at Wigan as part of a huge International weekend.  On the undercard will be two representative games when the Juniors (Under 16) and women’s players will play in Origin style representative games as part of the occasion.

The Junior Session (Under 16, male & female) will be from 1030-1230 hrs and the Women 1300-1515 hrs.  Both sessions are open to everyone.  Players need to bring training gear, wheelchairs, water and food to refuel

Extra chairs are available where needed and playing shirts and tags will be provided the day.

Wheelchair RL Chair Martin Coyd said: “This is tremendous progress for the game as we continue to build off a couple of decades of hard work and a fantastic World Cup which was a launchpad for growth.  We have over 50 teams and have recently been joined by Batley Bulldogs and Castleford Tigers who have begun training in the past couple of weeks.

"Tom Coyd and Dave Banks, the England Coaches, have been driving the pathway and recognise the importance of providing opportunities for everybody.  The international players of the future will come from this and we are putting a structure in place to create something special.

"It’s not only for players, it’s for Coaches and Match Officials too. The sessions will be delivered by coaches who participated at the beginning of the year and will provide a progress route for them.  Match Officials will be working with the players at Sheffield and take control of the games in Wigan."
