Hunslet are through to the Championship Promotion Final after a phenomenal victory against Keighley Cougars in the Betfred League One Play-Off Final.
This means Hunslet will travel to face Swinton Lions on Sunday, who finished in 12th place in the second tier, with the winner of that match taking their place in the Betfred Championship next season.
The Cougars, who finished in second place in the regular season, were consigned to a 6-20 home defeat by fourth-placed Hunslet, live on The Sportsman - a repeat of a previous encounter where Hunslet ran out victors back in May.
Hunslet, who initially lost their Play-Off opener against Rochdale, had had to overcome Midlands Hurricanes and then the Hornets again to set up this West Yorkshire derby at Cougar Park.
It was a closely fought contest in the opening quarter, before Hunslet took the lead through Ethan Wood, and former Cougar Matty Beharrell added the extras.
Mackenzie Turner’s try in the corner on 30 minutes then increased Hunslet’s lead, as the Cougars struggled to find momentum.
George Flanagan did cross the line on the 58th minute to bring the hosts back into the game at 6-12, although then they gave away a costly penalty which allowed Beharrell to edge his side further in front.
And it was to be Hunslet’s day when an incredible finish from Jack Render in the corner put Hunslet 6-18 in front and rounded off an excellent team performance. This was followed by another successful penalty goal, as Dean Muir's men now look ahead to next weekend's final.
