The X-League National Grand Prix will take place this Saturday (19 October) at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park and as the final event of the year draws closer it’s an opportunity to look back at another successful year.
The season began back in April with the Warrington Titans hosting the opening event, followed by Grand Prix’ hosted at Sheffield Forgers, Warrington Warriors, Oldham St Anne’s, Oldham Owls and finally a trip to West Oxfordshire Levellers.
Oldham St Anne’s started the campaign as defending champions and after winning four out of five tournaments they retained their league title with local rivals Oldham Owls finishing in second place.
A special mention goes out to the Rotherham Nomads who formed their X-League club back in January, participating in three Grand Prix events is a fantastic achievement in their debut season. In their short existence they have grown their playing number base and have gone from strength to strength becoming an integral part of the X-League community on and off the field.
Competitions Committee Member, Graham Hibbert, said:
“It has been a season packed with not only great tournaments but also some great rugby on display by all teams involved.”
X-League Chair, Des Foy, explained:
"We're delighted to see the growth and progress X-League has made this season and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has pushed the concept forward. For those who haven’t tried it yet - whether you’re a newcomer finding your feet, a seasoned player refining your skills, or someone returning to rekindle your love for the game—there’s a place for you in X-League.
“This is about more than just Rugby League. It's about community, learning and personal development, through a shared passion for the sport. We're excited to keep building and welcoming more players, volunteers and match officials as we continue this journey together."
