Betfred Challenge Cup First Round - Update

Betfred Challenge Cup First Round - Update

Waterhead and Thatto Heath Crusaders, the two community teams who had been due to host cameras from BBC Sport and The Sportsman respectively this weekend in the First Round of the Betfred Challenge Cup, have reluctantly conceded defeat to the wintry weather.

But the good news for Rugby League fans is that both ties will now be shown next weekend.

BBC Sport will still cover Waterhead’s tie against Leigh Miners Rangers – with the same 1230 kick-off time, but postponed to Saturday week, January 18.

And The Sportsman will now show Thatto Heath’s home tie against Orrell St James the following day, Sunday January 19, kicking off at 2pm.

The First Round ties at Crosfields, Dewsbury Moor, Lock Lane, Mirfield, Stanley, Rochdale Mayfield, West Bowling and West Hull, which were all due to be played this Saturday, have also been put back a week, to January 18 – and GB Police’s home tie against York Acorn which was due to be played on Sunday has been rescheduled for Sunday week, January 19, still at Portico Vine ARLFC in St Helens.

London Chargers v Oulton Raiders has also been postponed with details to follow, with Ince Rose Bridge stating there's 50/50 chance their tie with Longhorns could still go ahead.

However the four ties scheduled for further south in the UK are expected to go ahead.

They includes Hammersmith Hills Hoists taking on Siddal at 530pm on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the British Army host the RAF at Aldershot in an all-military clash that will be shown live on the British Forces Broadcasting YouTube channel.

Then on Sunday, Eastern Rhinos are due to host Wests Warriors in Colchester, while the St Helens community club Blackbrook travel to South Wales to face Aberavon Fighting Irish.
