York Knights ensured there would be a sixth new winner of the sixth AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final on Saturday, as they defeated Featherstone Rovers 5-4 in Golden Point extra-time.
The Knights came from behind in the first half, courtesy of two Liam Harris penalty goals to Ben Reynolds’ singular successful conversion.
The second stanza went on to be a scoreless battle, where neither sides could muster up any more points.
Tensions were high as the game proceeded to Golden Point extra-time, and after missed drop goal attempts on both sides, York captain and Ray French Award winner Liam Harris came up with match-winning one-pointer - in what was the first tryless 1895 Cup.
History was also made in what was York's first ever win at Wembley Stadium.
