Denis Betts and Molly Jones preview the 2025 Women’s Nines Festival

“The Nines made us realise that these teams aren’t unbeatable..."

“The Nines give us a nostalgic feeling; it solidifies for us what we know we can do. We want that feeling back of how we felt last year lifting that trophy," said Wigan Warriors’ Molly Jones.

The Women’s Nines Festival returns at West Park Leeds RUFC on July 5th, where 17 teams including all eight of the Betfred Women’s Super League will compete for the 2025 Nines Women’s Championship.

Reigning Nines Women’s Champions and recent Betfred Women's Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors will look to defend their title and add to their impressive start to the 2025 season...

“We want to defend our title that we got last year, I say, at this moment in the time it’s our trophy. Come the Nines it’s everybody's up for grabs, so we want to defend that Nines trophy.” said Warriors Head Coach Denis Betts.

“We've got a lot of momentum from that last year. There's a lot of belief built into lifting that trophy, it’s the first one since 2018 and I think that the whole group have bought into the fact that every competition now is up for grabs.”

This year’s festival will feature an exciting new format that combines the full tournament and finals into a single action-packed day and will feature the addition of brand-new teams set to shake up the competition.

“We'll be going up with a strong group to defend the title, it's an exciting day with the festival atmosphere, and the games are played in a really strong competitive way,” continued Betts.

The Women’s Nines Festival is a designed space where women’s teams can showcase their talent, enjoy themselves, and connect with the community in a unique and meaningful way.

“We all get excited when it's coming up to the Nines, it's fun. We always get hyped for it as a squad.” Jones added.

Betts then commented: “I see lots of young kids there, you see lots of talented players at other teams, and it just gives them a feel for what the game could actually be in the future.”
