Rugby League Cares and the Rugby Football League and RL Commercial have implemented a new initiative whereby anyone who buys a ticket for Betfred Challenge Cup Finals Day or any other major event through RL Commercial will be able to make a donation to the sport’s independent charity. It is five years since the RFL and RL Cares made a significant change in their long-standing relationship, with Cares taking responsibility for the delivery of all player welfare functions on behalf of the sport.
Now, following the realignment of Rugby League governance in 2022 which led to the formation of RL Commercial to work alongside the RFL, this innovative approach will see RL Cares able to further underpin their delivery of welfare into the game.
Tony Sutton, the Chief Executive of the RFL, said: “Rugby League Cares has been one of the most positive forces in the sport for more than a decade, and we are delighted to see them continue to deliver wellbeing for us as a governing body, and for Rugby League as a whole. “Like all charities, they can only deliver such an important range of services because they receive such generous support.
“Rugby League fans have always been renowned for their generosity, and I’m sure they will welcome the new agreement with the RFL and RL Commercial allowing anyone who buys a ticket for a major event to make a donation to Rugby League Cares.
“We’ve already seen a wonderful response since the donation was introduced for the Betfred Challenge Cup Finals Day – and as we are now within a fortnight of the big day at Wembley, we are confident that will continue.”
Tickets for Betfred Challenge Cup Finals Day on Saturday June 8, including the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final, are available from £20 – details here.
