Leigh Leopards Women are crowned Northern Championship Champions

Leigh Leopards Women are crowned Northern Championship Champions

In a thrilling contest at Leigh Miners Ground, the home of the Leigh Leopards, the hosts claimed the Northern Women’s Championship title with an impressive 46-6 victory over Sheffield Eagles. Despite dramatic weather conditions and a slippery ball, Leigh dominated the fixture, sealing their place in the upcoming National Championship Final against London Broncos.

Sheffield started strong, taking advantage of the conditions with powerful running. After Leigh’s first try in the opening ten minutes, they missed the conversion, allowing Sheffield to respond with a well-executed dummy pass and a try in the right corner, which was converted to give them a 6-4 lead.

Leigh responded 20 minutes in with a try under the posts, reclaiming the lead at 10-6. Despite a serious injury that saw a player stretchered off, Leigh rallied, scoring another try while down to 12 players after a yellow card, extending their lead to 16-6 before halftime.

Sheffield suffered an injury setback of their own, but Leigh remained relentless. In the second half, they turned up the intensity, scoring two tries to push the score to 22-6. Leigh added four more tries in a dominant display at the second half, finishing the game 46-6.

With this victory, Leigh Leopards now look ahead to their National Championship Final clash against London Broncos, where a win could see them promoted to the Super League if successful against Featherstone Rovers in a double header at the Grand Final.

The Grand Final is set for Sunday 6 October, where Leigh will aim to finish their spectacular season in style, sharing the stage with Grand Finalists St Helens and York Valkyrie.
