Kevin Sinfield CBE completes latest fundraising challenge
Rugby League and fundraising legend, Kevin Sinfield CBE, successfully completed his latest challenge this week with the former Leeds Rhinos captain raising over £1.2 million for the MND community.
Sinfield ran over 230 miles in seven days in memory of his late teammate and best friend Rob Burrow CBE who passed away from MND in June this year.
The mammoth task was his fifth 7-in-7 challenge, running seven ultramarathons in seven days, with the 44-year-old having already raised nearly £10 million from the first four events.
This year’s race began at 7.15am at Old Trafford, the place where both players created so many special memories during their playing days for the Rhinos and ended in Sinfield’s home area of Saddleworth.
The challenge, dubbed Running Home for Christmas, saw Sinfield smash his £777,777 target, overcoming 80mph winds in Storm Darragh and a torn leg muscle in the process.
Tony Sutton, the RFL Chief Executive, said:
“Everyone here at the Rugby Football League would like to say a huge congratulations to Kevin and his team for yet another outstanding fundraiser in really tough conditions. The dedication, commitment and passion Kevin shows to supporting the MND community is incredibly inspiring.
“The money he has raised will be invaluable to finding a cure for MND and it didn’t surprise me to hear that he is already planning for what will be in store for 2025!”
