This Mental Health Awareness Week (May 12- May 18), we’re proud to stand behind the theme of community, a value that sits at the very heart of Rugby League and the Rugby League family.
Whether you’re a player, a volunteer, a lifelong supporter, or just discovering the game, Rugby League brings people together in a way that truly matters; especially when it comes to our mental health.
At the RFL, we recognise that mental wellbeing is a collective responsibility. That’s why this week, we’re encouraging everyone to connect with their local clubs, charitable foundations, and community wellbeing hubs. Spaces designed to support people through connection, activity, and care.
As part of our wider Social Impact Strategy, we are committed to supporting our communities beyond the 80 minutes through social cohesion, social justice, and by tackling inequalities. These pillars underpin everything we do, driving positive change and ensuring Rugby League is a sport for all.
Notable events during Mental Health Awareness Week:
Portico Vine Community Wellbeing Hub:
Highlighting Dementia Awareness in partnership with St Helens NHS Dementia team.
Giants Community Trust:
Encouraging movement for all ages by offering Rugby League, fitness and cheerleading sessions. Also supporting the community with weekly Social Giants Reminiscence sessions.
Castleford Tigers Community Trust:

Our Foundations play a vital role across the country, by delivering impactful playing and community programmes that use the power of Rugby League to change lives. Meanwhile, our Community Wellbeing Hubs accreditation is helping clubs to grow their role in delivering local support, enhancing sustainability and creating inclusive spaces that promote better mental health.
No one should face mental health challenges alone. By coming together through Rugby League, we can foster a sense of belonging, open conversations, and help build stronger, healthier communities.
