Odsal Stadium to host Girls’ War of the Roses and Under 18s Finals

Odsal Stadium to host Girls’ War of the Roses and Under 18s Finals

Following a thrilling England Women Origin fixture in June, the game’s future stars will face off in the Girls’ U14s and U16s War of the Roses, followed by the U18s League Final at Bartercard Odsal Stadium on Saturday 13 July.

With three trophies up for grabs, the event is set to celebrate Girls’ Rugby League through the age groups with over 100 players due to participate.

The day will kick off with Bentley versus Rochdale Mayfield in the U14s War of Roses Final (K.O. 10.25am). Rochdale overcame Rose Bridge Patheresses 10-16 to book their place at the event with Bentley defeating Knottingley Mustangs 18-12.

Greetland Allrounders take on Leigh Miners Rangers in the U16s Final (K.O. 11.45am). Both sides won convincingly in their regional competitions to make it to Finals Day, Leigh overcame local rivals Orrell St James 24-6 with Greetland celebrating a 32-4 win against Hull FC.

2024 also sees the introduction of the U18s League Final - the age category was introduced earlier this year to meet demand as participation numbers continue to soar and the Odsal event will be another opportunity to celebrate the progress being made in the girls’ game. We will see Dewsbury Moor take on Leigh Miners Rangers in the U18’s Final.

RFL Girls’ League Chair, Patricia Crawshaw, said:

“In yet another record-breaking season for the number of girls registered to play Rugby League, it’s fantastic to showcase the game in the U14s and U16s War of the Roses battle and the U18s League Final.  The U16s contest is of particular interest as many of the girls are sign-posted to Women's Super League teams, hopefully, some future England players will be spotted!

“Whilst cross Pennine “bragging” rights are on offer in the two War of the Roses encounters there can be no losers as all the players are winners of their respective County Cups. Therefore, congratulations to the teams on coming through the four well-contested finals and good luck as they represent their County.

“In a first for the Girls League, there will also be the U18s League Final. This has been a challenging age group to get up and running but progress is being made, so well done to the finalists and here’s hoping they enjoy the experience.”
