The Betfred League One Play-Offs are underway this Sunday, as five teams prepare to fight for the final promotion spot on offer.
Keighley Cougars finished second in the regular season, so will sit out this week as they wait to welcome their opponents to Cougar Park next weekend.
Meanwhile, it’s 3rd v 4th in the Qualifying Play-Off game as Rochdale Hornets host Hunslet.
The winner of this match will play second-placed Keighley, while the loser will be given another chance and will play the winner of the Elimination Play-Off game on home soil.
The sides have faced each other twice already this year, and it’s one a-piece where results are concerned. Hunslet beat Rochdale at Crown Oil Arena 24-26 all the way back in Round 2, but more recently Rochdale won convincingly 18-48 away in West Yorkshire.
2019 was the last time the Hornets competed in the Betfred Championship, while Hunslet have endured a further hiatus – it’s been nine seasons since they last played in the second tier…
Then, the Elimination Play-Off game sees 5th v 6th go head-to-head, as Midlands Hurricanes take on Workington Town.
The Canes have never experienced life in the Championship before but have the opportunity to change the course of history on Sunday.
Town, who have fluctuated between the second and third tier in recent years, will also be aiming for a successful Play-Off run, as the Cumbrian outfit set their sights on a return.
Midlands have completed the double over Workington in 2024, but this will be a one-off game and all to play for, meaning it could be anybody’s on the day.
There will be no second chances in this match, however, as the loser will be consigned to another year in League One. The winner will travel to the play the loser of the Qualifying Play-Off (either Rochdale or Hunslet).
