Leigh Leopards Women to host Northern Championship Final

Leigh Leopards Women to host Northern Championship Final

This Sunday (22 September, K.O 2pm), Leigh Leopards, this season’s highest placed finisher in the Northern Women’s Championship, will host Sheffield Eagles in a thrilling Play-Off match. Both teams will be competing for a coveted spot in the National Championship Final, where the winner will face London Broncos, the Southern Champions.

The highly anticipated fixture will take place at Twist Lane, Leigh Miners Welfare (WN7 4EF), giving the Leopards a home advantage after an impeccable season which saw them finish first in the league. Leigh have had a flawless season so far, winning all 16 of their matches. Sheffield Eagles, who secured a dominant victory over Salford Red Devils in the semi-finals, finished the league season in 2nd place, so we are looking forward to a 1st v 2nd final.

It’s all to play for as the team that triumphs will make history by reaching the first-ever National Championship Final.

Winners of the National Championship Final will then have a chance at promotion to Super League if they beat 8th placed Featherstone Rovers in a double header at the Women’s Grand Final, October 6th.

Spectators are encouraged to come down and support on Sunday afternoon. There will be an entry fee of £5 for adults, £3 for 12-17 y/o’s & concessions, and U12’s are free.

Tom Brindle, Head of Development and Women’s Super League General Manager, said: “This season has been exceptional, and the talent on display in the Women’s Championship has been truly inspiring. The chance for promotion has undoubtedly pushed teams to improve their game.

"Good luck to both teams – we’re all looking forward to an exciting match.”
