RFL partner, Try Tag Rugby, has had another record year, with around 11,000 players participating weekly in its leagues across the UK. Operating in 16 UK locations, the main format of the game is mixed, with 40% of the players being female.
In addition to growing its player base, Try Tag Rugby has continued to expand around the UK, with new leagues successfully launched in York and Newcastle.
In Sheffield, the Sheffield Eagles Foundation has taken over the Try Tag Rugby South Yorkshire licence. This is the first time a Rugby League Foundation has been awarded a licence, and a significant milestone for the sport's development.
Tag Rugby began as an off-season training tool for Australian Rugby League teams. By removing tackling and replacing it with "tagging," this non-contact format makes Rugby League accessible to a wide range of people, including those who may never have played the game before.
With over 50% of players having never touched a rugby ball before, Tag Rugby has a broad appeal—not just to Rugby League fans, but also a much wider audience. Most importantly, it’s a fun, social way to keep fit and meet new people!
