The RFL Unveils New Community Trust and Kicks Off Week of Social Impact at Wigan

The Brick Community Stadium in Wigan recently became the epicentre of both thrilling international Rugby League and a significant milestone in the sport’s commitment to social change. As England faced off against Samoa in the first international test series of the year, the Rugby Football League (RFL) proudly introduced its latest social impact initiative: The RFL Community Trust.

The RFL Community Trust is dedicated to furthering the sport’s social impact goals, working hand-in-hand with the Governing Body and the Rugby League Charitable Foundations.

Furthering the RFL’s dedicated social impact mission and #OurLeagueLife, this week will mark the first ever ‘Week of Social Impact’. The aim of the week is to show how the RFL and its supporting foundations #LeaguebyImpact , and to showcase the incredible community that makes Rugby League a sport like no other.

Ashleigh Seddon, Social Impact Manager at the RFL, said:

“Rugby League has always been more than just a sport - it’s a lifeline for our communities. From its origins in 1895, the sport has prioritised the wellbeing of those who support it, with the launch of the Community Trust and our dedicated Social Impact Week we’re enhancing our commitment to make a tangible difference in the lives of people across our regions.”

The RFL continuously partner closely with local communities and foundations to highlight the true essence of its social impact work. Throughout the Week of Impact, various initiatives will be showcased, offering a glimpse into the ongoing efforts that the social impact team has been tirelessly working on.

Marc Lovering, Director of Development at the RFL, said:The Community Trust isn’t just about supporting our sport; it’s about leveraging the power of Rugby League to create lasting, positive change in society. We’re committed to working with our communities to deliver on that promise.”

To support this launch, the RFL has produced a compelling video that highlights the various social impact initiatives that define Rugby League. The video underscores the message that Rugby League is much more than a sport - it’s a force for good.
